The Story
The Tucson Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located outside the main entrance to Fire Central in downtown Tucson, Arizona. It features 5 life size bronze sculptures, one of which is life-sized bronze statue of a firefighter in full turn-out gear. The statue gazes across the site looking at a granite wall, while holding his helmet over his heart, in honor of those who have fallen. One of the many features of the memorial is a granite wall that stands at the far end of the monument and is engraved with the names of those who died in the line of duty, in service to the citizens of Tucson. In front of the wall stands a second bronze statue, of a firefighter’s turnouts, symbolizing the uniform in which they died. The walkway surrounding the monument is paved with personalized commemorative bricks purchased by members of the community to help fund the memorial. I feel honored to have been able to design the memorial and create the bronze statues for the Tucson Firefighters Memorial.
